Is Your Greater St. Louis Roof Ready for Santa and His Reindeer?

RRSABlog Roof Replacement

Sharing is caring!

We have had a snowy last few days in the Greater St. Louis area along with well below freezing temperatures. Although this kind of weather is a hassle and can be dangerous, it also can be a lot of fun and make it feel a whole lot more like Christmas.

With Christmas only a few days away, the RRSA St. Louis team wanted to ask our blog readers if your roof is ready for Santa and his reindeer to land. We have done the research for you, and according to the website Neowin, “ Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized Lego set (two pounds), the sleigh is carrying over 500 thousand tons, not counting Santa himself. On land, a conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that the “flying” reindeer could pull ten times the normal amount, the job can’t be done with eight or even nine of them–Santa would need 360,000 of them. This increases the payload, not counting the weight of the sleigh, another 54,000 tons, or roughly seven times the weight of Queen Elizabeth.

To ensure a successful landing and departure for Santa and his cargo, here’s a roof maintenance checklist:

  1. Do a quick scan of your roof and framing.
Are there any missing or popped shingles?
Are there any areas that are sagging or uneven that might need a closer look from a professional?Roof maintenance tips to prevent water damage during winter by McMahon Services and Construction of Chicago, Arlington Heights, Berwyn, Des Plaines, Evanston, Grayslake, Mundelein, Libertyville, and Skokie, IL
  2. Check that chimney! (After all … Santa has to have a way to make his grand entrance!)
Are there any cracks in the mortar?
Bricks out of place, needing some tuck-pointing?
Not related to the exterior … but this is a good time to be thinking about if that chimney needs a good cleaning, too!
  3. Check your gutters.
Remove any leaves, branches, or other debris that might be clogging the gutters.
Ensure gutters are properly attached to the roofline.

Of course, those are tips for checking things out yourself, but after reading above how much Santa and his cargo weight, don’t you think you really should let an RRSA St. Louis professional come do a free roof inspection before Christmas eve to make sure your roof can handle it? (Be sure to show this blog post to your kids.) 🙂
